The Fusion of Music

We will always entertain a friendly discussion regarding the myriad musical genres that are constantly evolving. It's Musical Fusion!

That said, for the thousands of musicians performing in the greater Tucson area, we could easily come up with dozens and dozens of various musical styles.

Here are the challenges we face with Genres:

How many is enough?
How many is too many?
How will we classify thousands of musicians?
How should we present this complexity to the user?

For now, we made the decision to KISS and chose a few major genres. Since we've not offered genres previously, this is a big step forward.

For the Tucson area, the 3 genres that should be considered are Americana, Bluegrass, and Classical. We could also make the case to have buttons for Open Mic/Jams, Karaoke, and DJs.

On this note, there are so many venues with Karaoke and DJs, we have decided to NOT include those events due to the volume.

As we work on tagging all the great talent, we're using these basic guidelines:

Americana = Folk/Rock
Bluegrass = Folk/Other
Classical = Other
Open Mic = Other
Rock includes anything electronic that's not country
